The CDT – Construction Documents Technologist

    (by Marty Helly)

The Construction Documents Technology (CDT) Program provides a comprehensive overview for anyone who writes, interprets, enforces, or manages construction documents. Project architects, contractors, contract administrators, material suppliers, and manufacturers’ representatives can all realize
the advantages of obtaining Construction Documents Technologist certification.

By being able to understand and interpret written construction documents and the relationships of all participants, CDTs perform their jobs more effectively and improve communication among all members of the construction team.

    CDT Exam Overview
The computer-based CDT examination lasts two and a half hours and contains 100 multiple-choice questions. The exam is administered at Prometric test centers nationwide. CDT candidates must demonstrate their knowledge of CSI’s recommended practices in the following subject areas:

    • The construction process
    • Contractual relationships
    • Use of construction documents

    NE Region Online Course
Note to all Worcester County Chapter CSI members – even if you’re not committed to sitting for the exam, this course will provide a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of written construction documents and project delivery that can assist you in being more effective in your daily activities in this industry.

The NE Region CSI will be holding sessions in the New Year to prepare for CDT exam. The spring exam window is May 1 to June 7 in 2023. If you’re one of the 75% of our chapter members who have yet to prove themselves within CSI’s certification programs, (note that the percentage has dropped thanks to our
recent recipients!) this is a great opportunity to improve your resume. And even if you’re not sure you’re ready for the test – consider participating in the course to strengthen your understanding of construction documents.

The review course will be held online. Details are currently being worked out but last year it was 10 evening sessions. Sessions were recorded so that members have the convenience to catch up on any sessions they miss on their own schedule. The Instructors are members from around the region who are all successful participants in the advanced certification exams.

Watch for details in next month’s newsletter to register.
