The annual WCCSI Christmas party was held at Leo’s Ristorante in Worcester. There were 53 people in attendance. The evening started out well with drinking and appetizers and that led right into our entertainment with not one but two comedians. Andrew Delle Volpe led things off with a solid 15 minutes of funny material focusing on his experiences growing up and working in the Boston comedy world. Everyone seemed to enjoy his comments. The featured entertainer, Dave Rattigan followed Andrew and rounded out the last 45 minutes of entertainment. Dave led us through his life experiences of being married, getting divorced, getting married again, buying a house and giving it away, and finally ending up in a relationship with a younger woman who will be able to “change his diapers and take care of him in his old age”. After a brief battle back and forth with my 91 year old mother, a battle which he lost, he went on to tell us about some of his experiences with getting stopped by the police while driving to and from gigs, and gave us his secrets to having his first child when he was 47 years old. A good time was had by all.
After Dave was done we indulged in the always delicious Leo’s buffet. Everything was excellent but as usual the Baked Scrod was the biggest hit. I asked the owner what made it so good and his response was that “…dropping it on the floor and coating it before he cooked was the secret”. With that being said I am still not sure what the secret is but every time I go to an event there it always seems to be the star of the buffet.
We the moved on to the ever popular Yankee Swap and had about 40 people participated in trying to spread some cheer and get the honors of the most audacious gift. A cook book for chicken called “50 Ways To Eat Cock” was right in the edge and got a few comments. The items most sought after and swapped seemed to be a bottle of top shelf Irish Whiskey and some Ghiarardelli chocolates.
We hope to see more of you there at next years event on Friday December 11, 2020. Mark your calendars and start looking for those off color, off the wall gifts for the Yankee Swap. See you next year
