This year may well be remembered forever as “THAT YEAR”. The one we all want to forget. Seems like nothing is easy right now and the normal stuff we rely on to get us through the work day just isn’t there. Our chapter had to postpone all group gatherings from March through July, both the technical education offerings and the social activities. We’re going to do our best this fall to get these back to something that helps us network and advance our careers – in the safest responsible socially distant manner we can.
In August we took a big step in that direction. Touring the construction of the Worcester South High School allowed us to get together in a large facility and share details of the building envelope systems, mechanical equipment, structure, site logistics, installation methods, staging and more. We had a few new faces – albeit behind masks. We saw some old friends – although sometimes it took hearing a voice to recognize them with the face coverings. We shared a meal – individually boxed. For an evening things were a little bit normal. A big THANK YOU to Peter Caruso of LPA Architects and Mark Hogan of Fontaine Brothers for making this happen.
This month we’ll try to get back to normal again with our annual scavenger hunt to learn more about our industry through the examination of Worcester’s rich architectural history. We’ll experience it first hand by visiting significant sites as well as have a full discussion of their importance afterward. Please join us – and if you know a friend or co-worker you feel comfortable safely sharing the experience with, bring them along for the ride.
Our scholarship fund has been built over the years on the proceeds of our annual golf outing. This year we were not able to get 100 golfers on the course and in a room for the fundraising event. A number of our regular participants stepped up and contributed anyway allowing us to continue our tradition of giving support to deserving students. You’ll find a listing in this newsletter. Please thank them by supporting their business wherever you can. Also herein you’ll find a run down on this year’s scholarship recipients. We wish them the best as they start their college experiences in this challenging time.
Hope to see you at a chapter event in the very near future. Be safe, stay healthy.
