Last May, WCCSI and AIACM provided a tour led by Principal Architect Robert Para, Jr. of LPA | Architects of the new Doherty Memorial High School. At that time, the school was approximately 60% complete, providing attendees plenty of opportunities to observe the construction at various phases throughout the school. Fast-forward to present time…
With the school scheduled to be substantially complete by June 2024 for students to begin attending in the Fall, classrooms are mostly complete with major spaces such as the Auditorium, Gymnasium, Cafeteria, and shops nearing completion. Built by a joint venture between Fontaine Bros and Dimeo Construction, the 420,000 square foot building will support an educational program for 1,670 students.
This month’s program will again be led by Rob Para supplemented with a presentation on exterior rainscreen systems by LPA|A Associate Principal Michael Oldakowski. Michael has been with LPA|A for nearly 26 years and has successfully detailed the exterior envelope of nearly every new school the firm has designed during this tenure. Michael leads the office’s internal Exterior Envelope Group and is navigating through the new energy code and its impacts to envelope design.
The program is pending approval by AIA for 1 HSW continuing education credit. After participating in this program, attendees will be able to:
All participants will be required to wear sturdy boots and long pants. Additional Personal Protective Equipment such as hardhats and high visibility vests will be provided (limited quantities). So, come join Worcester County CSI and the Central Mass AIA for an informative building tour of the largest high school in the great City of Worcester!
