ATC Group Services, LLC (ATC) will present a one-hour Continuing Education Unit on hazardous material management at the Central Massachusetts Chapter annual meeting. This course is approved by the American Institute of Architects as class ‘ATC 2020-02’ and is titled ‘HAZMAT 101 – Understanding the Basics of Hazardous Materials’. Each attendee will earn a 1.0 hour Learning Unit under the Health, Safety and Welfare designation (1 LU|HSW). There is no charge for this class.
Course content: Improper handling of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) such as asbestos, lead, mercury, chromium and PCB can stop a construction project in its tracks. Comprehensive surveys and abatement design can help minimize extra cost and time delays associated with HAZMAT on construction projects. This presentation will cover common HAZMAT found in buildings, basic testing requirements, general remediation practices and regulatory requirements. The presentation will also discuss the effects of COVID-19 on hazardous material project planning/bidding as well as hazardous material project site activities/work practices.
