Roofs might be the last thing the designer is concerned with, but they have the greatest exposure for post construction claims. 75% of post construction claims are roof-related and of those, 59% are related to perimeter edge metal failures. Damage from severe weather and the leaks that follow will leave a bad taste in any Owner’s mouth and can change the perception of your fantastic new facility to an utter failure overnight. But when you’re writing your roofing spec, do you really understand the language and standards that apply to holding it down? ANSI this, SPRI that – what do you call for and how do you know they’ve installed what you need? Well not only can we tell you, but we’re going to show you with a hands-on demo!
This month’s presentation focuses on the top of the envelope and the secure attachment of the modern low slope roof system. We’ll examine the evolution of codes, standards and testing methods critical to robust roof design and installation of insulation, membrane and perimeter edge metal. Don’t like technical powerpoint presentations? Then you’re in luck! The tech-talk is preceded and followed by hands-on demonstrations of proper installation and all kinds of destructive testing of fasteners and adhesive installed into various types of roof decks. We’ll also demonstrate how to reduce the human-element through the use of induction welding of membranes to the fasteners by letting completely unqualified audience members try their hand at welding.
This month’s presenter, David Allor CSI, is the Specifier Services Manager for OMG Roofing Products headquartered in Agawam, MA. An active member of both Worcester & Hartford CSI Chapters, David worked the past 8 years as the RhinoBond Product Manager for OMG Roofing. During that time, he spent 100’s of hours on site learning from and supporting commercial installers and building owners using the RhinoBond system as their preferred method of attachment. His combined experience has proven valuable to roofing specifiers in search of sound attachment options for their thermoplastic roof designs.
The program is pending approval by the AIA for 1 HSW continuing education credit. After participating in this program, attendees will be able to:
